Your rank in ChatGPT's answers, tracked prompt by prompt

There's no page two in ChatGPT. Your brand is named in the answer, or it isn't, and it's named first or fifth. SEOpen's ChatGPT rank tracker asks your prompts every week and records where you came up, which page was linked and which brands were named ahead of you. Claude, Gemini and Perplexity get the same prompts.

Prompt

“best small batch coffee roaster that ships to Canada”

Answer

A few roasters stand out for fresh, small-lot beans with reliable shipping. Northbound Coffee roasts to order twice a week. Fernhill Roasters ships to Canada with tracked delivery[2] and lists the roast date on every bag…

Brands named, in order

  1. 1Northbound Coffee
  2. 2Fernhill Roastersyou
  3. 3Little Owl Roastery
  4. 4Juniper & Ash
  5. 5Calder Street Coffee

Linked page: /shipping. Last week: 4th, no link.

Example figures for a small online coffee roaster. One ChatGPT answer from the weekly check, shortened.

What each check records

  • Your position in the answer

When an answer lists several brands, SEOpen records the order. Your average position across answers is the closest thing AI search has to a rank.
  • The full answer, kept

Every answer is stored with its date, so you can reread what ChatGPT said about you in September and compare it with today.
  • The page it linked

When the answer cites your site, you see which URL. It's often not the page you'd expect, and that's useful to know.
  • Each prompt's history

A prompt that named you for six weeks and then stopped is worth a look. Every prompt keeps its own timeline per engine.

How it runs

  1. Once

    Write prompts like a customer

Real questions, in full sentences: “best small batch roaster that ships to Canada”, not “coffee roaster”. SEOpen can draft them from your keywords.
  2. Every Monday

    Asked with web search on

Each prompt goes to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity with web search enabled, so answers can cite live pages the way they do for real users.
  3. Any time

    Compare engines

Visibility by engine shows where you're strong and where you're missing. It's common to be named by Perplexity and absent from ChatGPT.

What it doesn't do

So you can decide before you sign up, not after.

  • It can't see a person's chat history or memory, so it records a fresh, signed-out answer. Real users may see something different.
  • Answers vary between asks. A weekly sample per engine shows the trend; one answer on its own proves little.
  • It uses each engine's current fast model with web search through DataForSEO, not every model each company offers.
  • It doesn't write content or suggest edits for you. It tells you where you stand.

Questions

Can you track rankings in ChatGPT?
Not in the way Google has positions, because there's no fixed results page. What you can track is whether ChatGPT names your brand for a given prompt, in what order, and whether it links to you. Repeated weekly, that gives a usable rank.
How is this different from the AI visibility page?
It's the same weekly check seen from one angle: where you rank inside each answer. The AI visibility view rolls the results up into share of voice and sources across all four engines.
Does it track Claude, Gemini and Perplexity as well?
Yes. Every prompt is asked of all four engines in the same weekly run, and each engine has its own trend.
Why does my brand show up for some prompts and not others?
AI answers lean on the pages and mentions they can find for that exact question. A prompt about shipping may pull from your shipping page; a prompt about taste may pull from review sites that don't mention you. The cited sources show which.
