SEO tools for small business, without the agency suite

A small business needs four things from SEO tools: to see which searches bring customers, to watch the handful of keywords that pay, to catch what breaks on the site, and to know whether AI assistants recommend it.

SEOpen does those four on one page, in plain English, from $29 a month. It leaves out the agency features you'd pay for and never open.

What a small site needs

Four jobs, each done by one part of SEOpen. Everything else is optional.

  1. Know which searches bring customers

Search Console already has this, free. What's missing is a page that shows it plainly, keeps it past Google's 16 months, and points at the queries just off page one.

  2. Watch the few keywords that pay

Not ten thousand. The twenty or fifty searches that bring buyers, checked every morning, so a drop gets noticed this week instead of next quarter.

  3. Catch what breaks

A theme update, a plugin, a renamed page. A crawl finds the broken links and missing pages before customers do, sorted by what to fix first.

    Site audit
  4. Find out what AI assistants say

People ask ChatGPT for a recommendation before they search. Whether it names you is now part of whether you get found.

Five minutes on a Monday

That's the job SEOpen is built around. Open the project, read what changed and what it's compared against, and fix the one thing that needs you. The rest can wait for next week.

What changedLast 7 days vs the 7 before

Four things improved this week. One needs you: nine pages started returning errors after Tuesday's theme update.

What you can skip

Big SEO suites are built for agencies and in-house teams. These are the parts a small site rarely uses, and SEOpen doesn't charge you for.

  • PPC and ad research

Useful if you run paid campaigns at scale. Most small sites don't.

  • Fifty projects and client reports

That's agency work. One to five sites is a different job.

  • Massive keyword databases

You need the keywords near your business, not every search on earth.

  • AI content writers

Pages written for search engines rarely help customers. Your own knowledge is the part nobody else has.

New to SEO? Your first month

A plan for beginners that works with any tool. With SEOpen, each step is one screen.

  1. Week one

    Connect Search Console

See the queries you already show up for. That list is your starting keyword research, and it's free.

  2. Week two

    Track twenty keywords

Pick the searches that bring buyers, plus a few you'd like to win. Watch them daily for a month before changing much.

  3. Week three

    Fix the errors

Run an audit and fix the errors on pages that get traffic. Leave the notices for later.

  4. Week four

    Ask the AI

Add fifteen to twenty-five prompts, the questions a customer would ask. See who gets named, and which pages get cited.

Questions

Do I need an SEO tool if I have Google Search Console?
Search Console is the most important SEO tool a small business has, and it's free. What it doesn't do is track keywords daily, crawl your site for errors, keep data past 16 months, or check AI answers. That's the gap SEOpen fills.
What are the best SEO tools for beginners?
Start with Google Search Console, which every site should have. Add one tool that explains its numbers in plain words and doesn't bury you in features. SEOpen is built to be that second tool; whatever you choose, pick one you'll open every week.
How much should a small business spend on SEO tools?
Less than you'd think. The main plans of the big SEO suites list at $129 to $139 a month (prices checked 30 October 2026), and they're built for agencies. For one to five sites, $29 to $79 a month covers tracking, audits, research and AI answers.
Does SEOpen work for a local business?
Partly. It tracks rankings by country, on desktop or mobile, not by city or ZIP code, and it doesn't manage your Google Business Profile. If most of your customers come from map searches in one town, a local rank tracker will serve you better.
Do I need to know SEO to use it?
No. Every number says what it's compared with, issues explain why they matter and how to fix them, and the home page tells you what changed this week in sentences.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes. Cancel from billing settings and your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for. Every table exports to CSV first.
