AI Overview checker: which pages does Google cite?
Type a keyword and this checker runs a live Google search from the country you choose, with the AI Overview loaded. It shows whether Google answers with an AI Overview, every page the overview cites, and the top 10 results under it. Add your domain to see whether you're cited and where you rank.
Reading the result
No AI Overview means Google answered with regular results this time. That is common for brand names, local searches and anything about money or health with no clear answer. It can change from one week to the next.
Cited but not in the top 10 happens often. Google draws the overview from pages that rank for related searches too, so a page on page two can still be quoted. Top 10 but not cited usually means another page answers the exact question more directly.
How to get cited
- Answer the question in the first few sentences under a heading that matches it, then add the detail.
- Keep the page crawlable and indexable, with no nosnippet or max-snippet limit. The AI search readiness checker tests both.
- Cover the follow up questions people ask next, which the overview often answers too.
- Keep the page current: dates, prices and facts that are out of date get passed over.
Questions
- Why don't I see the same AI Overview when I search?
- AI Overviews change by country, language, device, signed in history and the day. The checker runs a clean desktop search from the country you choose, which is closer to what a new visitor sees than your own browser is.
- How does Google choose which pages to cite?
- Mostly from pages that already rank well for the search and related searches, picking passages that answer the question directly. Pages set to nosnippet, max-snippet:0 or noindex can't be cited at all.
- Is there a limit?
- Ten new keywords a day per visitor, and a shared monthly budget. A keyword someone checked in the last seven days shows the saved result and doesn't count.
- Can I track AI Overviews over time?
- SEOpen checks your tracked keywords every week and records whether an AI Overview appears and which pages it cites, so you can see when you're added or dropped. It is in private beta; join the list on this page.
